Awesome night card, pt. 52

I realize the Pirates don't have Jason Bay anymore. He was traded away in that three-team deal that brought a certain free spirit to the Dodgers last season.

The Pirates also don't have Jack Wilson or Ian Snell anymore. They were shipped to the Mariners. They don't have Freddy Sanchez. He was sent to the Giants. They don't have Adam LaRoche or Nate McLouth. They're now Braves. They don't have Nyger Morgan. He's a National. They don't have Tom Gorzelanny. He's a Cub. They don't have Xavier Nady. He's a Yankee. Sort of.

You know who else the Pirates don't have anymore? Sean Casey. Jason Kendall. Ty Wigginton. Kris Benson. Aramis Ramirez. Brian Giles. Matt Stairs. Jeff Suppan. Bronson Arroyo. Jose Guillen.

A few other guys they don't have anymore: Jay Bell. Denny Neagle. Jeff King. Andy Van Slyke. Doug Drabek. Barry Bonds. Tim Wakefield. Randy Tomlin. Bobby Bonilla. John Smiley. Sid Bream. Johnny Ray. Tony Pena. Bill Madlock. Rick Rhoden. Dave Parker. John Candelaria. Kent Tekulve. Omar Moreno. Phil Garner. Jim Bibby. Bert Blyleven.

They also don't have the following anymore: WILLIE STARGELL. GRANT JACKSON. AL OLIVER. JERRY REUSS. MANNY SANGUILLEN. RICHIE HEBNER. RICHIE ZISK. RENNIE STENNETT. JIM ROOKER. DOCK ELLIS. ROBERTO CLEMENTE. DAVE CASH. STEVE BLASS. MATTY ALOU. BILL MAZEROSKI. VERN LAW. BOB VEALE. BOB FRIEND. DICK GROAT. ROY FACE. BILL VIRDON. FRANK THOMAS (no, not the one you know). RALPH KINER. ARKY VAUGHAN. LLOYD WANER. PAUL WANER. KIKI CUYLER. MAX CAREY. PIE TRAYNOR. AND HONUS WAGNER!

Yet, somehow, they still managed to beat the Dodgers last night.

(No postseason berth celebration to see here. We'll try again tonight).

Curse the Rockies and Giants, too. I was ready for a clinching celebration tonight.
I think the Pirates won because they ALSO don't have Mario Mendoza anymore!

Thanks for the memories there, night owl. I spent 10 years in therapy and swore off ever watching baseball again after the Pirates became the Home Shopping Network of Major League Baseball. All those players, all that talent, all that potential...trained, signed, and frittered away. This post evokes what it was like to be a Pirate fan growing up. It also makes me throw up in my mouth a little. Thanks again for conjuring up some demons. I'm headed to the liquor store.
